FFN
was reading a chapter announcement on FFN, apparently the author is taking the story off cause she's going to rework it and publish as an original book. this is my rant that i want to 'review' but thought, better not, wouldn't want to make enemies when there are apparently 'fans' of her work.
i mean, seriously? why are you taking a work that was dedicated to the fandom/pairings and rework it? when reworking probably just means changing the name of the character. what does this exactly say about your characters? that they were never 'in character' and therefore, by replacing their names, they could be anyone else? you might as well just change the name and publish it in several fandoms.
if someone saw that work and went 'wow' and offers to publish it as an original for you, shouldn't the logic be that, you reject and offer to write another original story? it's not as though you are that bad of an author and only has one remarkable work.
okay fine, so maybe there's the temptation there, with the honour that someone wants your work, but that piece was originally for that fandom, for that pairing, and you are willing to take it off the site and just change their names and publish it? something is seriously wrong with the way you think. where is your pride as the author of that story, as a fan of the fandom. where is your respect for your readers who liked it when it was a FANfiction?
it's worse if it was actually you who went to find a publisher to publish that. unfortunately (luckily for me) i never did join your 'fanclub' so i'm not sure about that.
on the topic of fanclub, i believe the word means that it is a club created by fans for a work/author/something/someone they respect. you creating your own fanclub is already strange as it is. and then you went on to organise events, labelling events like [yourpenname]contest. come on, who are you to do so? you're not even a 'fan' (unless it is possible to be a 'fan' over your own work, which is just wrong and self-obsessive on so many levels)
there are so many authors (in that fandom and otherwise) much much better than you. your characters are not always in-character; your stories drag out too long and loses the original main attractive idea; you create original characters and have spinoffs, sequels on them. i don't see these other authors creating fanclubs.
i have 398 favourite stories on my page, only 2 of them is yours, 1 of them i would like to delete but thought to leave it since it's marked as completed. should i just wait for you to take it off so that you could publish it and earn some profits for yourself?
seriously.
